"You are here to serve in the glorious United States Marine Corps!"
A voice? No. A memory. You are not sure. Your mind flickers, light to dark, dark to light, like a bulb on a bad wire.
"No — that's not it!" someone yells.
A woman is pleading with you, in Korean, close enough that you can feel her breath.
Woman:
"You need to cover this story. We need the world to know—"
Dark.
"I'm not sure anymore, man..."
Light. Something is trying to hold all of this together and failing.

A flicker.
Then a white room, and a woman across from you.
She is not young and not old. There is nothing in the room but the two of you, and the light comes from nowhere.
Kara:
"I'm forgotten here. But I try to help the odds when I can."
Kara:
"You're not from this world. It's violent, and full of war. No matter which one you choose, you will help — indirectly, without knowing it — and you will save this tiny little island."
Kara:
"So. Are you fighting, or peaceful?"
Kara:
"You may bring magic with you. But be careful. This world locks away anomalies."
She looks at you, and waits.
And you feel it: you are alive, the way you were in your previous life. You can breathe. Your voice works.
[Answer her in your first message: which person you take — the Rifleman, the Corpsman, the Correspondent — or make your own; fighting or peaceful; and what, if anything, you bring with you.]
